Each character showcases a strong side of them in order to cover up their weaknesses. Each female varies from the other. Geet is the feisty Punjabi girl. Meera is the simple girl. Veronica is the modern party girl. Veera is the spoilt teenage girl. Yet, what all four characters have in common is the fact that they have strong personalities.
Although each character is shown to be strong, we also see their vulnerable sides. The sides of them that make us, the audience, relate to them. That side where we think ‘I can totally understand that’ or a situation where we feel we have been in that place before.
Each character has had their moments where they have completely let go and broken down. In that moment, we are reminded that everyone has a vulnerable side. No one can remain so strong for long. We all have to let our guard down at one point, but these females have used that weak side in a positive way.
Imtiaz Ali gives his female leads a strong character to play, but he always gives them situations so that the audience will leave the film remembering that character, and their journeys, and because of that, these characters remain iconic to us.
